DOOM: The Dark Ages

ShooterStory RichAction
8/10

What I liked

The combat still feels powerful and aggressive, but it has a different style from the previous DOOM games. The medieval setting, heavier weapons and Shield Saw give the game its own personality.

What I didn't like

Even with the new mechanics, there are still times when the constant fighting starts becoming repetitive.

Story

There is more focus on the Doom Slayer and the world around him, but I still played DOOM mainly for the combat rather than the story.

Combat & Gameplay

The Shield Saw is one of the biggest changes. Blocking and parrying attacks adds another part to combat instead of everything being about shooting and movement. The weapons still feel powerful, and large fights can become crazy very quickly.

Exploration & Open World

The environments feel larger and more open than some of the earlier games, with secrets and upgrades that give you a reason to explore.

Final Thoughts

Another very good DOOM game. I liked the heavier combat and medieval style, and the Shield Saw helps make it feel different instead of simply being more of the same.
